Scodix Delivers Key Finishing Capabilities—a No. 1 Priority in the 2019 drupa Report

2020 is here and drupa, the world’s largest print trade fair, will be upon us sooner than we think. With June 2020 and the big show not so far away, we took a look back at the latest drupa Global Trends report published last April. The report summary is a good way to reset this January and plan for the types of things you should be looking for at drupa.

What stood out to our Scodix team in the report was the focus areas of capital investment. As part of the report, the researchers asked printers from around the globe about their investment priorities in the last 12 months and how they have changed going into the next 12. Finishing was listed right at the top in both printing and packaging markets. While it came in as number two in the packaging or converting marketplaces, for commercial print, direct mail and the like it comes in as the top concern.

From a Scodix perspective, this aligns with previous research we have shared about the growth of the digital print enhancement marketplace and the value that adds to printed pieces whether you are the print provider selling to buyers or you are the buyers looking for innovative providers that have stand out products that will grab your recipients attention. We discuss the impact of that research more in our previous blog post: Be in TOP 10 Percent of Printers by Adding Scodix Digital Print Enhancement.

One of the key takeaways from the above was that print buyers, according to the study, were willing to pay between 24-89% more for digital print enhancements (finishing technology) than CMYK-only work. Fast-forward to April 2019 and the drupa Global Trends report and we continue to see finishing making waves in the market. And with Scodix, you can not only add in-line, efficient finishing with up to 9 different applications, you will also open the doors to more customer opportunities and return business.

As you look at the landscape of finishing technology that you could add to your environment, we invite you to look more closely at Scodix. The key for Scodix is providing our print producers with technology that allows them to deliver stand out digital print enhancements…also called digital print embellishments. A capability that may be defined as the addition of white ink, spot colors, fluorescents, and spot/flood coating and by extension the capabilities to add foil, glitter, holograms and more in-line with a digital print enhancement press.

With the Scodix 101 and 202 Digital Print Enhancement Presses a print shop will quickly and easily add these capabilities:

Scodix Sense™—our one-of-a-kind process for applying digital print enhancements using our printing presses.
Scodix Spot—a selective spot varnish that is a recreation of traditional analog varnish applications.
Scodix Foil—an inline module that provides foil and embossing applications for short and medium print runs.
Scodix Metallic—apply metallic coloring using the CMYK color process of the Scodix SENSE system without the need for offline hot foil stamping.
Scodix VDE/VDP—this feature offers clients the ability to provide barcodes, security verification, quality control and variable data print enhancements.
Scodix Cast&Cure—add high impact 3D-holographic effects to your print project for the ultimate ability to stand out from the crowd.
Scodix Crystal—create dimensional items on your printed page with a high-build polymer application. Many uses including greeting cards and direct mail.
Scodix Braille—the innovative Scodix Inkjet-Braille™ solution is designed to provide a better quality of life for blind and visually impaired people.
Scodix Glitter—an updated feature now available on the Ultra line of digital print enhancement presses, this effect brings an easy-to-apply glitter option for print projects.

As June 2020 comes into view and drupa is on the horizon, we invite you to start exploring the capabilities of a Scodix Digital Print Enhancement Press. From our blog to the product pages on our website, there is a whole host of information right here at your fingertips. We also invite you to request a sample and reach out to one of our Scodix representatives to start your journey to find key finishing that will drive the future of your print business.
