1st Byte officially launched its ‘Sensory Printing’ service yesterday (16 January) and has already undertaken a number of projects for high-profile clients.

Even though the Scodix S75 digital embossing line only went into full production last Friday (10 January), 1st Byte has already completed projects for advertising agency Omnicom Group, display agency Echo Studios and high-impact invitations for investment bank Goldman Sachs, some of which were on show at the two client events held yesterday.

More than 70 designers attended the two sessions at Fedrigoni UK’s Imaginative Papers Studio in London’s design community hub in Clerkenwell.

Speakers included Scodix global marketing manager Ziki Kuly and Fedrigoni UK sales director Fred Haines.

Dalton said that the company was planning further events in February and March to promote the print possibilities offered by the firm’s latest installation.

As well as ‘embossed polymer varnishing’, 1st Byte will also use the Scodix to offer metallic effects on a wide range of stocks in conjunction with its HP Indigo presses.

“As well as the design and agency communities we also see a lot of possible applications in packaging,” said Dalton.

According to Dalton, the company would also consider taking on trade work on the Scodix, but only if the company also undertook the printing element on its Indigo battery.

The Scodix, the first in London, was supplied by UK distributor Conversion and was installed in December. According to Dalton, once clients see what the technology offers “it will be a must-have effect for many”.

“I think the Scodix will be a great success for us, and we’ll keep holding these seminars to show people what it’s capable of because they can only really appreciate the ‘wow factor’ when we put examples in their hands.”
