Are You an Influencer in Your Print Organization? Don’t Miss Being the Leader on Digital Print Enhancement

In today’s fast-paced world, it is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day. That is why we need influencers, some might call visionaries, within our organizations to help quiet the noise of the everyday and help us grab a hold of new opportunities. In the world of print and print technology, there is a constant battle over whether print markets are growing or declining, if there are new markets that are adjacent that you can move into and what the “next” technology will be to change the potential of the print market.

If you are an influencer in your print organization or a designer that brings challenges to the print landscape by pushing the possibilities, then we want to talk to you. Scodix is heavily invested in the Digital Print Enhancement marketplace. What is the Digital Print Enhancement marketplace?

Keypoint Intelligence defines Digital Print Enhancement as white ink, spot colors, fluorescents, and spot/flood coating—often times delivered through a fifth station. This market also includes capabilities, like that of a Scodix Digital Enhancement press, that allow for the addition of inline foil, dimensional print, holograms and more.

For examples, of the type of transformation you can see in print with this type of enhancement, we invite you to cruise over to our online Before and After gallery. While feeling is truly believing, it will give you a first impression of the impact of digital print enhancement. One of our favorites is the basketball. In most print it is a flat, two-dimensional image—something you recognize, but don’t really have an experience with. With digital print enhancement, and Scodix printing technology, that basketball comes to life with texture that is familiar and in turn makes a physical connection. Talk about stand out print.

As an influencer, you know that just because something is cool, that doesn’t mean you will be able to sell your organization on offering it. There has to be a tangible connection to business goals or new markets. In 2017, we wrote about a recent study by Keypoint Intelligence called Beyond CMYK: The Use of Special Effects in Digital Printing. While that report you have to purchase today, here are some key insights that will help you and your organization understand the potential of the enhancement market.

First, in 2017 the Digital Print Enhancement marketplace was estimated at a value of $917 million. Second, it is expected to grow at a 14% Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR). That will represent some $1.3 billion in 2020. Third, and perhaps most importantly for those organizations looking to break into new markets, Keypoint Intelligence, says their research shows that less than 10% of digital print volumes use a fifth color station…read room to dominate a market, especially in your local region. Finally, print buyers have indicated through the research that they would be willing to pay between 25-90% more for print that has digital enhancement over what would be considered a typical CMYK job.

Curious how your organization would leverage this to their advantage? We have a couple thoughts for you on that too. In our recent blog, Set Your Print Apart from the Rest: 3 Ways to Make it Happen, we give a starting point for the impact that can be made with stand out print and finishing. And if you are looking for more, perusing our blog for the last 18 months will give you insight into some great global case studies, client success stories and ideas to drive your business forward.
